1. What we collect
- Account details — your email address and the username / display name you choose.
- Messages and files — public channel messages and files (stored so members can read them), and direct messages and their files (end-to-end encrypted, so we only ever store scrambled ciphertext we cannot read).
- Basic technical data — standard logs such as your IP address and device/browser type, kept by our infrastructure providers for security and reliability.
2. How we use it
To create and secure your account, deliver your messages, send you account emails (such as confirmation and password reset), keep the service running reliably, and prevent abuse.
3. Encryption
Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted. They’re locked on your device so only you and the person you’re messaging can read them — not the server, and not the app’s creator. Public channel messages are not end-to-end encrypted — they’re visible to all signed-in members and stored in readable form so the group can see them.
4. Translation
If you use the translation feature in a public channel, that message’s text is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to translate it, then returned to you. Direct messages are never sent for translation.
5. Service providers we use
- Supabase — database, accounts, file storage, and hosting.
- Resend — sends account emails (confirmation, password reset).
- Anthropic — translates public messages when you use the translation feature.
These providers process data only to help us run the service. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
6. Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, which removes your account and your messages. Some routine backups and security logs may persist for a limited time before they age out.
7. Security
Passwords are stored hashed (never in plain text), direct messages are end-to-end encrypted, and all data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS. No online service can promise perfect security, but we aim to protect your information with sensible, current practices.
8. Children
UNIVRSLL Chat isn’t intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we’ll remove it.
9. Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
